In the UK, 1 in 4 people are suffering from mental health issues. Over 3 million UK citizens are officially diagnosed with depression. A worrying statistic. Having trained many people suffering from depression, I am still pleasantly surprised at the immediate positive effect exercise has on the mental well-being of my clients. During exercise, endorphin hormones are released from the central nervous system and pituitary gland. These chemicals reduce your perception of pain and trigger a positive feeling in the body. Encourage your employees / colleagues / friends to meet for a gym session or go for that lunchtime jog or walk. Set-up activity teams and clubs, employ a personal trainer to take lunchtime sessions at the workplace or find out about corporate gym memberships for your company. Spend a little time setting this up and watch your employees/ colleagues / friends develop and become confident, happy and positive.
