Izzy has only recently started training with me and instantly I knew she was a natural athlete. Standing at 6-1 and with great natural strength and fitness, Izzy wanted to vary her training programme and improve her fitness, strength and body composition.

After the first session, I immediately contacted a GB rowing coach in Bath and requested to test Izzy for the GB Start Programme. As she is only 21 and has all the required physiological dimensions for the programme, GB rowing performed some fitness and strength tests on Izzy and they were impressed. Izzy has more tests in March and she is currently training to increase her fitness, strength and body composition. If Izzy passes these tests, she will automatically be enrolled onto the GB Rowing Team Start Programme. This is a programme to fast track talented athletes. It is where a number of our Olympians have progressed to be Olympic Champions.

Izzy continues to train daily. We are currently improving her aerobic capacity through steady state endurance sessions and working on her anaerobic lactic threshold with strength circuits. Continued effort working Izzy through different planes of motion is also helping with her balancing in preparation for her first water session. Watch this space!

UPDATE 27th March 2019:

I am pleased to say that Izzy is training on the Great Britain Start Programme in Bath with GB Start Coach Dan Harris. The British Rowing World Class Programme is a specialist identification programme that trains and develops athletes for the GB Rowing Team. Graduates of the World Class Start Programme include Helen Glover, Alex Gregory, Moe Sbihi and Heather Stanning.

Izzy did very well in the testing and has been invited onto the programme. In the words of coach Dan Harris, “Izzy smashed her test”. I’ll keep posting updates of Izzy’s success and maybe one day we will be cheering Izzy for gold at the Olympic Games!
